Not far from my house lies a national park, called as Bukit Shahbandar. Within is a luxurious green forest, virtually untouched. The area is made up of several hills that can take up to 4 hours to walk through nine of them. Whilst walking, you feel like you are miles away from anyone or anything; it is a time purely for you.
As you look up the first hill, a set of dauntingly steep concrete steps lie ahead; however these are not to be feared as once you pass them you are set apart from the world. As you continue your walk, you realise how deeply immersed in the rich green rainforest you are. It's a surreal moment. The combination of birds, cicadas and the occasional rustle in the bush really helps to preserve the state of mind you enter whilst walking.
Once you reach the fifth hill, you are provided with a simply amazing view that almost covers 360 degrees. The whole of Brunei is stretched out around; the world is your oyster.
As you finish the walk, you come back to reality with a thud as you see the highway right in front of the peaceful harmonious walk you were on, simply minutes ago.
When I have the time to go, it is really a time for me to escape; listening to either Bon Iver on my iPod or the sound of the rainforest.
